FUN STUFFS: The complete list of the things i want to do in Japan

If you follow me on Twitter you probably would've guessed that i'm preparing to go to Japan.
Well, you're right.

Weird face. But whatever, i got a Japan visa, baby! And it's FREE, baby!
It even got cute little stamps of cherry blossom...

Unlike any other middle-class teenagers with their iPhones these days (i'm being sarcastic 'cos i'm jealous. Don't you guys get my jokes? Pfft, tough crowd), i'm not going there on vacation. I'm going there for student exchange. I'm accepted as a delegate of Indonesia in Japan International Week*. It is an annual student exchange program organized by the Institute of International Relations Keio University (one of the best universities in Japan). The program will last for 15 days, but i'm going to stay in Japan for 19 days (hey, it's not like i can go there everyday).
*We also have International Week in Indonesia. Click here to know more.

Of course, i will tell you all about it here. But first, i want to share to you fellas what i'm so eager to do (or see) in Japan while i'm there. I'm of those people who don't really care about the main attractions such as temples, museums, or whatever. I'm a sucker for weird underground stuffs! So if you guys know some things i should do or see in Japan, please let me know. I mean, it's Japan! Those guys are the king of weird and awesome (FYI, i read from this blog that they have "air sex"...).

Meanwhile, here are my plans:

Taking pics with ganguro (or in my case, be a ganguro and take pictures of myself)

Call me, maybe?

Ganguros are a hit in Japan. Well, used to. Now they're "out of fashion", as what my contact person (her name is Misaki) said. But she also said: "if you want, we can be ganguro by making up like them". Well, challenge accepted.

Taking pics with a sumo player

No, not the statue! I want the real one.

Going to Japan and not see a sumo player? It's like going to Jakarta and not experience the traffic jam. Although this can be hard (sumo tournament has already ended in January, and will start again in March. Well, bummer), where there's a will, there's a way!

Taking pics with an otaku (maybe meet a hikikomori)

An otaku's room. I wonder what happens if there's an earthquake...

Otaku means "addict", and you don't have to be a manga freak to be an otaku. There's train otaku, car otaku, bikini girl otaku, cat otaku, horse otaku (though i never heard one). I want to take pics with one, just one and i'm alright.

Skiing

Doesn't he get cold?

I've never seen the snow, and definitely never gone skiing. Well, that record won't be kept for too long, because my host family will take me to go skiing in a ski resort. They even want to give me ski lessons! I can only hope that i won't fall flat on my face.

Go to a theme café

Uhm.. can i come out alive after i finish my meal?

You know theme café? We actually have that kind (Nanny's Pavillon, anyone?), but there's nothing comparable to what Japan has. They have the coolest theme cafés / restaurants! For all i know there's ninja restaurant, the ubiquitous maid café, ninja restaurant, cat café, Gundam café, even Alice in Wonderland restaurant! Hmm, which one to choose...

Go to Harajuku and snap some photos

And i thought thinking of what to wear tomorrow is hard...

What else do i have to say? Even Gwen Stefani made a song about it. Nicki Minaj wouldn't be so hated there. Lady Gaga is worshipped. It'll be like heaven, a heaven that many street-style photographers dream.

See dead fish at Tsukiji Fish Market

You couldn't sell these on eBay.

It's actually a market where the real deal of fish and seafood stuffs happen. There's even a tuna auction which is open for a few spectators but you have to get there at 5 A.M. (not me). It's said to be a hectic place, but i guess i could give it a try, as i read many reviews telling that you had to have sushi breakfast there.

Go to a red-light district

Ready for work now?

No, kidding. I can't go there. I'm too young for that.

Well, there are many other things i want to do, and would want to do. But i'll leave it for the excitement. Even thinking of getting into 7-Eleven in Tokyo makes me excited.

See you!

  12. I went to Japan for a similar student exchange event as well last year, and I got to experience what it feels like being in a Japanese high school for a day! I hope you'll have fun and gain many experiences from the student exchange!
I know this is a late comment, but if you actually happen to read this, I really recommend you trying out "purikura" and taste japanese crepes at Shibuya or Harajuku, and go to this big clothing mall named lafayette". A taste of what japanese young girls usually do in Harajuku and Shibuya :)
